ordered to STATE REF.... any advice??

Last night I was pulled over about 2 blocks from my house in Irvine, by the most honda-knowledgeable cop I've ever met. Officer Bak proceeded to tell me he pulled me over for my 3rd brake light being out, my hatch spoiler. He got straight to business and asked if I had a swap and made me pop my hood. I have a swapped jdm b16a still in stock form still running a stock airbox. During inspection he was able to point out everything about my car that only a honda person would know. He even knew it was a jdm motor. In his words "I figured you were swapped right when I saw you" He also told me how he also had an eg w/ fully built ITR swap when he was coming up. He wasn't a dick about it at all, answered all my questions and even recommended me to a shop to check out their swaps and how to get it bar'd.

My date is Sept. 23, so i would like to get things taken care of before then hopefully. What I would like to know is, what will happen to my car if/when it fails the State Ref. examination? Will I be given time to correct the infractions?

Your not allowed to drive your car until you go to reff.

If you get pulled over, from now til then, you will get your car impounded.

Only a Honda person would know? He clearly knew everything right? Then that makes him a Honda Person

Everything has to be obd1 and hooked up the way it's suppose to be without any modifications.

The Cop, what was he? Sherrif?
They can pop your hood?
Good Luck...

Yes I am aware that I will not be able to drive unitl I see the ref, I am mostly wondering if you are given time to make things smog legal and what not?

It was just regular IrvinePD, I've never been asked to pop my hood before and stupidly have never read into the rights you have about not popping your hood. He didn't TELL me to pop it, he asked, so i complied.

you basically have to get all the emmision stuff off the del sol b16 along with ecu.. and make sure you got a good cat. no check engine lights and no cut up wires so you can pass the visual..

Old pic, bay is much cleaner now. Btw yes on the radiator question, everyone always says my rad is tiny.

I am hearing that a jdm motor cannot be bar'd. I have not been able to find specific government information that says so. Any one knowledgable of the law to shed some light on the topic?

from what my smog teacher at school told me, is that 'jdm' motors no longer can be bar'd, as of 4/1/2009.. even with the usdm ecu and intake mani, but i also read on hater tech that as of 1/1/2010 you could, but there is no info on the smog website about that..

so there is no real answer, just call a ref and ask them
